Throwback song that I did during my time as an artist titled, “DoubleAgent.” It was featured on a soundtrack for this film called “2028” back in 2010. Take a listen and tell me what you think.

Open letter to an inspiration - Whitney Houston

I find myself writing as a means to get out my thoughts. You  were the reason why I fell in love with music. I remember like it was yesterday, I believe it was in ’93 or ’94 when my mom called a local radio station and won a copy of “The Bodyguard” soundtrack. During that time there were cassette tapes – oh boy, I am old.

My mom came home and I was the first to unwrap the tape and pop it into the cassette player in the bathroom. At that time, I didn’t truly understand the concept of music and/or adored any artist in particular. I remember hearing the first song on the album, “I will always love you”…with “I have nothing,” “Run to you” and several others to follow. From that point on, I fell in love with your artistry – your voice, your delivery, your tone and the way you can translate raw emotion into any song.

Your voice IS (present tense) one of a kind. There was always something about you that kept me engaged. Even later in life when there was so much speculation with your personal dealings, I always remained optimistic that you will return and captivate me like you always did.

In 2009, my prayers were answered. I got to hear your “new voice” – a voice with pain and experience…a voice with wisdom. I loved it. A fan is what I truly am. As I sit here saddened by your death while listening to “I Look to You,” I sit and ask why? Why did you leave? Why does it take for you to pass for others to appreciate your worth?

You are a legend. You paved the way for so many black artists in mainstream music – you still hold Billboard records and will always be the best voice to have ever walked this earth. I am so privileged to have been touched by your artistry, your poise, humility and devout love for music. Who else could captivate an audience like you? Who else could make ANY song their own like you? —-NO ONE!

“As I lay me down, Heaven here me now” are the words I keep hearing you hauntingly say in my ear. You didn’t know your own strength and you weren’t afraid to try things on your own. Your love for music is now my love. You taught me that the “Greatest Love of All” is to love myself despite what others say. I fill there is a void in my heart because you were one of very few musical inspirations.

Though in disbelief, I am trying to grasp the concept of not having you in the musical stratosphere. Since I’ve loved music, you’ve been there. Whitney Houston, I feel I’ve lost a second mother, a mentor, a friend – there will never be another you. From my heart to yours, I will keep your legacy alive. And, one day we will meet.

From this point on, my grieving is done. This letter serves as my memorial to you - my personal celebration of your life. A life that touched me and billions of you. There is no more struggle. No proving to others that you are great. God knows you’re great and that’s why I believe He called you home.

Rest in heavenly peace,

Nyerere

One of favorite songs during the past few months has been “Thinking About U”/”Thinking About Forever” by Frank Ocean (but it was originally meant for Bridget Kelly, but Ocean’s demo leaked and took over), but any way I decided to do my own cover and put my own flavor on it. And yep, I did it on Garageband and it came out pretty good IMO!!!!

I appreciate you all’s feedback!!!!! Hope you enjoy

This is a song I wrote in  2009, which was a demo for Trey Songz titled, “Redemption.”

Although the song wasn’t picked up, it is still one of my favs. In recent times, I’ve been charged the task of writing female records, but out of those - this song is still one of my personal favorites. Seeing the content of Trey Songz’ “Ready” album this song doesn’t fit the content at all.

I am actually singing the demo and love the message of this - The song tells of a guy who meets a lady who has been scorned and been abused (verbally, physically) in her past relationship, but when she meets him he becomes her savior and he leads her to “Redemption” - hence the title of the song.

Let me know what you all think? Good or bad…

This is an exclusive posting from me! S/O to one of my favorite contemporary songwriters Heather Bright for providing this. One of my favorite songs lyrically, melodically and tone is Fantasia’s “Even Angels” which was written by Ms. Bright herself.

Her and I connected on Twitter (@HeatherBright01) and I wanted to know if there was a demo the Fantasia record and if she did it—-she said there was and e-mailed it to me.

I greatly appreciate it Ms. Bright!!!!! She’s such a nice person and she’s given me even more reason to love her!!!! Take a listen to the demo of “Even Angels” sang by Ms. Bright for Fantasia!!!!!

Side note: Ms. Bright did a great job on the original and Fantasia did too!!!! FYI, you won’t find this demo anywhere else!!!!

From time to time I like to come from behind the pad. Decided to do a cover of one of my favorite songs right now, “We All Try” by one of my favorite newer artists, Frank Ocean… did it on Garageband…appreciate ya feedback.

I am a sucker for great performances. I often watch YouTube for countless hours just to get a glimpse of my favorite artists, unknown artists and newer artists perform all across the world.

However, Ms. Bettye Lavette (a blues legend) performed at 2011 UNCF Evening of Stars to tribute Chaka Khan (one of fav vocalists EVER). Ms. Lavette did a soul-stirring and immaculate performance of “Love Me Still.” This is by far one of the BEST performances ever.

Watch a legend at work. New artists take notes!!!!
